In 2008, as I was readying my RPG for release, one of my friends, Jeff Nunokawa, came to me with a radio spot for a show he was doing with Subterranean Press. Duane Peters, the great author of White Wolf, was doing a special music project for a game he was working on. The premise was that sound effects from the game were being adapted into songs, and Jeff and I entered into a collaboration to do a couple of tracks for him. After the success of the project, Jeff approached me with a bunch of old music sketches he had kept in his file. The story goes that he had gathered these sketches from bands he used to work for, including Nirvana, Metallica, Clutch, and more, and I was blown away by his passion and enthusiasm for these songs. He asked if I would be interested in putting this music to a game, and I was. I gave him the go ahead on the project, and it’s been in production ever since. Since DUFE’s release, fans have been generously sending me donations in support of this fantastic soundtrack, for which I’m very humbled.Making the MusicThe EP is a collection of old but still powerful music I’ve been saving in my music files for years. Some of the bands you’ll hear on DUFE aren’t new to the RPG community, while some are old favorites to me. The tracks are broken up into two sections, one for each world in the game. In the World of Joy, you’ll hear songs from bands like Clutch, Nirvana, and Metallica, while in the World of Sorrow, you’ll encounter songs from bands like Megadeth, Queens of the Stone Age, and Rigor Mortis.While the music for DUFE is mostly instrumental, some of the pieces also include vocals. I used a couple of pieces that lend themselves to this style of vocalization, particularly during conversations, which was a very gratifying experience for me.I hope you enjoy the soundtrack! If you like what you hear, you can also check out many of the tracks on my SoundCloud account, where I’ve collected some of my older songs, including some of the ones that were adapted for DUFE.

    How can I remove a field from the result of a command without passing that value in to the command?

    I am trying to remove a field from the result of a command without using a subexpression like :%s/oldfield/newfield% or :%s#oldfield#newfield% – I only want to use the! wildcard as a way of replacing existing values in a variable after the result of the command.
    e.g.
    Command
    foreach x (mylist)
    %do operation %~z1
    Next

    This would replace all of the values in where the value would be based off of the first character of .
    Result
    mylist

    I know how to do this but would like to use a pure output function in this way rather than using a subexpression.
    e.g.
    @echo off
    for /F “tokens=*” %%i in (‘
    foreach x (mylist)
    echo %%%i
    Next
    ‘) do (
    set my%%i
    echo %my%%i
    )

    Result:

    mylistmylistmylist

    Is there a way to do this without using a subexpression or variable?

    A:

    The %~z1 substitute varaible expansion is expanding to nothing, which could be why the variable was empty. You can just use =, and it will work without specifying the 1:
    %do operation %=mylist%

    Result:

    mylist

    Because there isn’t a….. that tells it to repeat the found match, it’s only matching at the end of the string.
    If you do want to capture each match, you can use the -EscapingWildcards switch. It will be treated as:
    %do operation -EscapingWildcards %=mylist%
