Thed BIX Archiver application was developed to be a freeware program for manipulating with file archives.

The BIX Archiver provides a command line tool for manipulating file archives on the computer. Its main purpose is to be simple, fast, functional and a little bit extensible.
Operations – BIX Archiver supports the following operations:
– listing files and directories
– reading and writing files
– extracting, compressing and encrypting archives
– checking, un-setting, deleting files and directories
– sorting files and directories
– testing ‘flags’ for archives (e.g. crc32, md5, sha1)
– general programming like ‘if-then’
– powerfull file management like renaming, deleting, extracting, compressing, creating directories, changing their attributes, etc.
Installation and Configuration – To use the Archiver command line tool, you will need to download the archive file (e.g. zip, tar.gz, rar, bzip2,…) and to unzip it on the working directory.
In order to create user configuration file you may run the BIX Archiver program with the following command line:
/BIX.exe config

Where “” is the absolute path to the BIX Archiver directory and is the name of the configuration file, e.g. your system wide configuration file is in “/etc/BIX.cfg”. It is usually a good idea to create such configuration file for BIX Archiver!
* If the file or folder with the same name with an asterisk appended is already on the system, the Archiver will be used as a reference to that file.
* If the doesn’t exist, the Archiver will create a new file with that name, in the working directory and will use that configuration file.
* If the already exists, the Archiver will not change any files or folders. In that case you may rename the file to whatever you want and then change the value of the ‘path’ variable to the new name.
Installation and Configuration – To use the BIX Archiver GUI, you will need to download the archive file (e.g. zip, tar.gz, rar, bzip2,…) and to unzip it on the working directory.
In order to create user configuration file you may run the BIX Archiver program with the following command line:

Thed BIX Archiver is a very simple archiver, which provides standard command line parser.
It can archive/decode nearly any type of file, and you can manipulate archives with a command line.

2) Installer: The setup installer for BIX Archiver is a vc60setup file.

The program itself is a modified version of RAR. It works well, but because it is intended to be distributed as freeware, it has a few quirks.

In parts of the program, functions are defined as macros, without the pragma. This results in a large number of warnings about the use of a non-standard function.

The interface between the main program and the plugins is a bit kludgy; they are P/Invoked so they have full access to the functions defined in the main program but can’t call back to the main program directly. This means that within a plugin, the main program can be used as a standalone DLL, but the plugins can’t really be used as a standalone exe.
