Equipped with the right applications, a computer can be of great help in virtually any domain of activity. When it comes to designing and precision, no other tool is as accurate as a computer. Moreover, specialized applications such as AutoCAD give you the possibility to design nearly anything ranging from art, to complex mechanical parts or even buildings.
Suitable for business environments and experienced users
After a decent amount of time spent installing the application on your system, you are ready to fire it up. Thanks to the office suite like interface, all of its features are cleverly organized in categories. At a first look, it looks easy enough to use, but the abundance of features it comes equipped with leaves room for second thoughts.
Create 2D and 3D objects
You can make use of basic geometrical shapes to define your objects, as well as draw custom ones. Needless to say that you can take advantage of a multitude of tools that aim to enhance precision. A grid can be enabled so that you can easily snap elements, as well as adding anchor points to fully customize shapes.
With a little imagination and patience on your behalf, nearly anything can be achieved. Available tools allow you to create 3D objects from scratch and have them fully enhanced with high-quality textures. A powerful navigation pane is put at your disposal so that you can carefully position the camera to get a clearer view of the area of interest.
Various export possibilities
Similar to a modern web browser, each project is displayed in its own tab. This comes in handy, especially for comparison views. Moreover, layouts and layers also play important roles, as it makes objects handling a little easier.
Sine the application is not the easiest to carry around, requiring a slightly sophisticated machine to properly run, there are several export options put at your disposal so that the projects itself can be moved around.
Aside from the application specific format, you can save as an image file of multiple types, PDF, FBX and a few more. Additionally, it can be sent via email, directly printed out on a sheet of paper, or even sent to a 3D printing service, if available.
To end with
All in all, AutoCAD remains one of the top applications used by professionals to achieve great precision with projects of nearly any type. It encourages usage with incredible offers for student licenses so you get acquainted with its abundance of features early on. A lot can be said about what it can and can't do, but the true surprise lies in discovering it step-by-step.

AppLink Software Inc is a software provider of AutoCAD extensions to the point cloud technology called Pointer Classification Software for Autodesk software. The Pointer Classification Software is an application to perform the task of automatically collecting a plurality of geometric points in a graphics file (either vector or raster).
As with any CAD program, a separate data exchange file is used to save the drawing. It is typically exported from the program.
A drawing can be exchanged with several CAD programs. When it is transferred from one to another, it must be converted into a format recognized by each. AutoCAD draws can be exported to several formats, including ASE and DXF. It can also export to AutoCAD’s own native format, which can be read by AutoCAD, as well as used as input by AutoCAD.
DXF (Drawing Exchange Format) is a drawing exchange file format used in a number of CAD applications. It is designed to interchange data for 2D engineering drawings.
DWG (DXF) is a file format for the exchange of drawings between AutoCAD and other CAD software. DWG files can be exported from AutoCAD using the Print command. AutoCAD calls its native file format DXF.
ASF (Architecture Student Format) is a file format used by some universities to share 3D models. It is an open format that can also be used to exchange, for example, PTC’s STL file format. It is not supported by all CAD applications.
IGES (ISO 11837:2005) is an exchange format developed by the International Organization for Standardization. It is used for exchanging design specifications and related information.
ASE (Architecture Student Exchange) is a format developed by ASCE, an organization focused on building design and engineering. It was originally intended to provide a cost-effective method of transmitting 2D drawings to students working on paper and pencil projects. The format is used by the University of Waterloo and some other schools.
AutoCAD includes several extensions that allow users to extend its functionality. These include:
Dynamic Input Mapping
Some programs come with specific add-on applications. AutoCAD comes with PowerCAM, a companion to AutoCAD that allows the user to view or capture digital images or motion picture in the context of AutoCAD drawings. The software also

New color display options
Here are some highlights of the improvements:
Color Settings: Improved Coloring
You can now choose between two new color-changing modes: Color-on-color, and Color-on-texture.
Color-on-color (previously called Gradient color) sets a base color to work from and then shifts it with a gradient depending on the depth of the face. With Gradient, you have the option to change the midpoint of the gradient by clicking with the mouse on any point on the curve, and also to scale the gradient by dragging the slider.
(see also: Exploring AutoCAD’s Gradient Color)
Color-on-texture changes the color of the highlighted face. Instead of a gray color, like the original, new color-on-texture uses all the colors available in the model, so you can choose a color for the highlighted area that blends seamlessly with the rest of the model.
Each type of color has its own special characteristics and ways to use it. In addition to using the new modes, you can access the colors on the color selector and on the color bar by clicking the color selector or color bar tool in the Options bar.
(see also: Using Color Settings in AutoCAD)
Improved Color Settings
The Color Picker is now a floating tool, so it’s always on top of the model. You can access it by pressing the Ctrl + Shift + C keys to open the Color Picker.
When you use the Color Picker, you can select more than one color from the model, and press Shift to set the color values to the new settings.
(see also: Using the Color Picker to Select a Color)
Enhanced Grayscale Display
You can choose a different display for grayscale, light/dark/none. Grayscale provides a more accurate representation of color.
