Autodesk released AutoCAD for DOS in 1988. The DOS version is the last program Autodesk released before the purchase of AutoCAD by Autodesk in 1991.
The company renamed its DOS program “AutoCAD” in 2000.
Components and features
Autodesk released AutoCAD as a split-file app for DOS that ran on a host microprocessor. In 1991, Autodesk merged the DOS app into AutoCAD ’91, a fully integrated, single file, platform-independent CAD package. This version was the first to be offered as a single file, platform-independent app, the product is now known as AutoCAD.
Over the past 20 years, AutoCAD has added many features and capabilities to help designers and drafters create and manage 2D and 3D drawings and other types of technical drawings.
As an update to its Windows applications, Autodesk released AutoCAD LT in 2002. AutoCAD LT is limited to the use of AutoCAD’s drawing commands but does not offer all the capabilities of the original AutoCAD. The original AutoCAD, being a 32-bit program, will run on a 64-bit Windows system but will run only as a 32-bit application if running in a 64-bit Windows system.
Several new releases of AutoCAD were released in 2008. AutoCAD 2009 included AutoCAD’s first large-scale overhaul since its inception. This release focused on a new workflow engine, which moved drawing functions to a new, simplified interface that eliminates many clicks and other time-consuming steps.
The company’s 2015 release, AutoCAD 2015, is targeted at the Windows platform. While this release includes many new features and improvements, its biggest change is the move to a new graphics engine, which will allow the app to use hardware graphics directly and support a more modern approach to graphics.
Like other commercial CAD applications, AutoCAD includes features that perform many specialized tasks. In addition, the software is modular. It has three basic components:

It added the same OpenGL engine, but with new features, and a revised user interface. AutoCAD 2002 was also released as AutoCAD Studio. In 2002, AutoCAD 2002 was renamed as AutoCAD Architecture. In 2006, Autodesk released AutoCAD Civil 3D.
Autodesk has published the specification of its file format in a Microsoft Technical Correlation Document called DSC3031 (Draft Specification for the Drawing Exchange Format—AutoCAD Civil 3D Drawing Exchange Format).

It is actually 2x instructions: first it moves edx into eax, then it moves eax into edx. What is the end result?
