AutoCAD is used as an electronic design tool for engineering (e.g., designing mechanical and electrical components, structures, buildings, and other mechanical and architectural items), architectural (e.g., drawings, site plans, and construction documents), engineering analysis, and other applications. AutoCAD and the other Autodesk software products are primarily used in engineering, design, and architecture, although AutoCAD is also used in other industries including interior design, graphics, publishing, scientific, and entertainment.
Sales of AutoCAD by region
AutoCAD sales by geography were reported in the following table (data are for full year sales from February 1, 2016 to January 31, 2017):

AutoCAD industry revenues are subject to long-term growth in both volumes and unit shipments, and short-term fluctuations due to seasonal factors (e.g., holiday seasons).
Compared to the global revenue, unit shipments, and volumes of Autodesk’s other software products, revenue from AutoCAD accounted for about 31% of the company’s total sales in 2016.
AutoCAD unit shipments
AutoCAD shipped about 3.9 million units in 2016, a decline of -0.1 million units compared to 2015. Unit shipments for 2017 are estimated to be about 3.8 million units.
AutoCAD volumes
AutoCAD volumes increased about 11% in 2016 compared to 2015, to a total of about 1.1 billion units shipped. AutoCAD volumes are expected to increase about 1% in 2017, to about 1.1 billion units shipped.
AutoCAD applications
About half of AutoCAD revenues came from the architectural and engineering segments, compared to about half of Autodesk’s total revenues in 2016. AutoCAD revenues from architectural and engineering segments have increased about 5% since 2012, while revenues from other segments (except for software development services) have decreased about 20% since 2012.

Data exchange
In addition to the native file format DWG, a dedicated data exchange format, the DWG file format XML (or DFX) was developed by Autodesk to facilitate the exchange of product designs.
Web services
Web services are a way of programmatically access one or more software applications via a Web service interface. Web services are typically a web-based interface that makes it possible for applications to communicate with one another. In the context of AutoCAD, they allow developers to access application functions and data across an XML-based interface. Although initially developed for the use in the Internet, Web services have become commonplace in other areas such as mobile platforms. Web services offer the following features:

He was a supporter of Alexander III. In his Memoirs he wrote that, although “a monarchist and a slave to none”, he “supported the policy of Alexander III with true devotion and energy and did everything he could to save the emperor.”
From 1871-1881 he was a member of the State Council of Imperial Russia.
