AutoCAD 2017 is the latest release of AutoCAD. This article outlines what is new in this major release and what you should know to make the most of AutoCAD.
What’s new in AutoCAD 2017?
The 2017 release has been well received, with mostly high marks for ease of use, power and features.
The new release incorporates AutoLISP, a programming language embedded in AutoCAD, making it easier to develop customised user interfaces. This feature was already available on Windows-based AutoCAD.
Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) is a graphics standard for 2D vector graphics images. Using the SVG standard, AutoCAD 2017 can import SVG graphics and export them as.svg files. This allows you to create designs using the web without having to learn the intricacies of vector graphics. You can view and edit SVG graphics in online file hosting sites, such as Dropbox and Google Drive, and you can download to your computer or mobile device.
A new Data Management feature makes it possible to edit data in a drawing from different data types. The Data Management feature allows you to write queries on data in a drawing. For example, you can find records that match a query and then view them as a table.
Accessible graphics. The AutoCAD graphics editor now supports screen readers, allowing you to easily edit graphics without the need for a sighted user. This is especially useful for those who want to make changes without the aid of a sighted user. The screen reader makes the changes you make available to a sighted person.
Improved plotting. The plotting tool and region feature are both improved. You can now scroll, zoom, and select a specific plotting area on the map. You can also specify a plot order.
Parsing. If you import an ASCII file, the layout and status bar are updated to indicate that parsing is complete.
Significant improvements to user interface. The new user interface has been redesigned. It now sports a simplified icon-based user interface and a more logical layout.
SVG. AutoCAD 2017 supports the SVG standard, allowing you to import and export SVG graphics. This means that you can create files containing vector graphics that can be viewed and edited in a web browser.
AutoCAD 2017 comes in four editions:
The Standard Edition, which is suitable
Generic CAD (GCAD) is a successor of AutoCAD and is a Microsoft Windows-only application for 2D CAD drawing, project management and modeling. It supports both flat and 3D shapes and editing features.
Generic Modeling System (GMS) is a 3D graphics and modeling application that runs on Windows and macOS. It uses the Open Inventor rendering engine to support robust, high-performance rendering. 3ds Max is the world’s leading 3D computer graphics software and is used by 3D artists and engineers around the world. It is developed by Autodesk and runs on Windows, macOS and Linux.
The features that allow CAD to model objects can vary. Most are available in standard applications such as CAD applications. However, those features that allow the models to be physically fabricated are not available in standard CAD applications. This includes multiaxis machining (machining), sheet metal forming, forging and molding. The software must be specifically developed to handle these.
Most standard applications include basic functionality for 2D drawing, 3D geometry modeling and simulation, and interactive 3D design. They also have 2D drafting tools, 2D and 3D vector, block-based, and diagramming tools. Many are coupled with AutoCAD in the form of plugin extensions.
A brief list of standard 2D drawing features, some of which are common to all applications and some of which are specific to a particular product, follows:
The 2D application has basic text and shape commands, various primitives, lines, arcs and ellipses, bezier curves, splines, circular arc, straight line, complex geometries such as 2D spline, circles, polygons, circles, arcs and ellipses, freehand drawing, object snaps, annotation of multiple layers, and image and vector editing.
3D features include 3D shapes, which are 2D objects that can be modeled and manipulated. They include parts, geometry, freeform surfaces, solids, and a number of models for many commonly used objects. Solid modeling allows for the creation of three-dimensional solids and shapes. 2D geometric modeling allows 3D objects to be created that can be further modeled to a higher degree of detail. Freeform surfaces, as the name implies, do not have to follow a traditional geometric shape. Solid modeling, including the ability to edit or reshape solids with the use of a styl

Business is at an all-time high for Qatada
Relatives of Khalid Qatada, believed to be a key al Qaeda operative, have benefited from a string of business deals, including investments in five luxury flats.

Khalid Qatada has been granted bail after spending nearly four years in prison.
The final chapter in the long legal battle over the role of the controversial radical preacher in al Qaeda has ended in spectacular fashion.
On Wednesday evening, a Jordanian court finally granted his bail to release him from prison after two further failed appeals against his custody.
Within minutes of Qatada’s release, word spread that his brother had joined him in the Jordan Hotel in the heart of the capital.
As the two men’s faces lit up with smiles as their relatives embraced them, some onlookers were still complaining of the wait and asked why they had been held so long.
Instead of the usual festive and celebratory atmosphere after a prisoner is released, there were rumours that Qatada’s associates were waiting to catch up with him and carry out acts of retribution.
However, Qatada’s defenders were quick to point out that since his release he had returned to his family, a move that would have shocked many supporters in the past.
Yet even the arrest and two years in prison of Khalid’s father had no apparent effect on the level of Qatada’s business empire.
Since his imprisonment in December 2005, Qatada’s influence and connections have continued to spread.
A brother, Iyad Qatada, is running one of Jordan’s leading construction companies and building a string of luxury apartments in the capital.
Prices are on the up, and the recent deals include a $900,000 flat in the King Abdullah district of Amman, with a swimming pool and sauna, and another apartment close to the city’s King’s Court building.
The second was bought for $200,000 by one of Qatada’s brothers, Iyad Qatada, for
